Dr. Ryan Bartlett, Ph.D. is vice president innovation and product development at Compass Minerals. Dr. Bartlett leads a team of scientists and field agronomists focused on developing sustainable agriculture technologies to improve crop quality and yields to meet the needs of global food supply demands. In this role, he oversees teams of researchers focused on soil fertility, plant physiology and plant health innovation in North and South America. Having done his postdoctoral studies at Vanderbilt University Medical Center on protein interactions related to Parkinson’s disease and cardiovascular disease, Dr. Bartlett wanted to broaden his knowledge of genetics and biophysics. With an opportunity to blend his research, biochemistry and Ag background, he left academia to take a research and development position at Monsanto. As Global Technology Development Innovation Lead, Dr. Bartlett oversaw the discovery and development of such globally significant innovations as next generation transgenic herbicide tolerance and Ag biologicals. Dr. Bartlett holds a bachelor’s degree in Genetics and a doctorate in Biochemistry and Biophysics from University of Kansas, Lawrence. Dr. Bartlett continues to be involved as 5th generation owner in the planning and management of his family’s farm and cow-calf operation in Paradise, Kansas. He is the author and co-author of numerous publications in the field of biochemistry, biophysics and cell biology.
