Industry Initiatives Addressing Phosphorus Challenges

Phosphorus use is essential to agricultural sustainability, but poses sustainability challenges as well. Using finite geological resources to replenish the phosphorus removed by crops alters biogeochemical flow paths on a massive scale. Agriculture is challenged to more efficiently use and recycle phosphorus, and in particular to reduce its impact on aquatic ecosystems. This presentation will detail recent steps taken to develop evidence-based suites of 4R phosphorus practices as a means to provide reliable metrics for sustainability reporting.
