Understanding Data Privacy and How It Impacts Precision Agriculture

Today, an increasing amount of data is regularly collected, processed, stored and shared in precision agriculture. With more data and data security breaches has come an increased attention and desire for data privacy.  Last year, as companies were learning the effects of the recent enactment of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation, California quickly enacted its own privacy law, the California Consumer Privacy Act.  The California Consumer Privacy Act was just the start.  Other states are taking steps towards enacting consumer privacy protections similar to California’s.  This program provides an introduction to privacy laws—what they are, who they affect, and why they should be on the agriculture industry’s radar.  The speaker will also describe how Precision Ag can work towards ensuring the privacy and security of its data.
